Cinnamon Layer Cake with Vanilla Paste Icing

This pretty little Cinnamon Layer Cake is perfect for a special occasion. It dresses up the recipe for a basic Sour Cream Coffee Cake, stacking small layers of cinnamon streusel laced cake with a drizzle of richly flavored Vanilla Paste Icing.

Ras al hanout is the potent ingredient that makes this salad special. It is a blend of various spices used to flavor meals in the middle east and Africa. Rather than a set blend of a few spices, ras al hanout can have dozens of spices in the mix and which spices it contains varies depending on the source…

A Galette des Rois, or King Cake, is topped with powdered sugar and adorned with a ribbon crown.

Galette des Rois – Another Cake for Twelfth Night

This French version of King Cake is surprisingly easy to make using frozen puff pastry. Simply stir together four ingredients to make a luscious almond filling, slip a whole almond into the mix, then tightly seal the edges of the pastry. Score a pattern of your choice into the top, then bake. Dusted with powdered sugar and finished with a decorative gold crown, a Galette des Rois makes a beautiful addition to a festive brunch or dinner.

A Cozy Crown for Epiphany

This holiday season I found a present under the tree that is perfect for this, the twelfth day of Christmas… At first, we weren’t completely sure what I had opened. It came in three pieces. One was large and two were small.  They were knit from gold and purple yarn […]

A Slice of Eggnog Pound Cake decorated with chocolate stars as a Twelfth Night Cake with figures of the Three Wise Men on camels in the background.

Twelfth Night Cake – Eggnog Pound Cake

This recipe for Eggnog Pound Cake makes a beautiful Twelfth Night Cake. Baked in a decorative pan and dusted with powdered sugar, then adorned with simple white and dark chocolate stars, this cake is both pretty and delicious. Jambalaya, made in a slow cooker, features shrimp and is served over rice.

New Orleans Style Jambalaya

This Creole style version of Jambalaya has been a favorite at my house for years. It is a slow-cooker recipe, perfect for simplifying a weeknight dinner. Ladle the Jambalaya over rice and serve it with a loaf of crusty bread or cornbread, and a salad for a simple and flavorful meal.

A braided King Cake drizzled with Vanilla Icing and sprinkled with Decorator Sugar rests on a wire rack with three kings on camels in the background.

Celebrating with a New Orleans Style King Cake

This New Orleans style King Cake is made from a cinnamon spiced yeast dough. Rolled out and stuffed with a praline filling, the dough is then shaped into a circular loaf before baking and decorating with vanilla icing and colorful sugar. As this festive cake is shared, each person searches for the “baby” that is hidden inside. Whoever finds it hidden in their slice is honored with a gift and/or the responsibility of hosting the next gathering during the Mardi Gras season.
